Captain Bob Munroe (Ret.)

Captain Bob Munroe enrolled in October 1979. On completion of Recruiting Training course at Canadian Forces Base Cornwallis he was transferred to Canadian Forces Base Borden to commence his Administrative Clerk course as a Private. His posting included CFB Trenton, Canadian Defense Liaison Staff Washington DC, CFB Esquimalt, CFB Borden and Land Forces Central Area HQ Toronto.
He transferred into the primary reserve and joined the 3rd Canadian Ranger Patrol Group in July 2000 as a Sergeant in the orderly room. March 2001 he was promoted to Warrant Officer, Chief Clerk. In 2005 he was commissioned to Lieutenant and a year later promoted to Captain and appointed the unit’s first Adjutant. His last three years he served as the Ranger’s Public Affairs officer until his retirement in March 2016.
Immediately after retirement Bob signed up for a two-year photography program at Georgian College. One of his first school assignments was to photograph Legion member Fern Taillfer with a cup full of poppies. He has been a member of the Barrie branch of the Royal Canadian Legion since 2017 and has volunteered to photograph the Remembrance Day ceremony for the past four years and offered World War ll and Korean War veterans free portraits. He has been a coach and past Chairman of Barrie Special Olympics.
Bob has received the following honours/awards; Special Service Medal with two bars, Canadian Peacekeeping Medal, United Nations medal (Golan Heights) and Canadian Forces Decoration with 2 bars and the 4th Divisional Commander’s Commendation for his work in liaising with families of deceased First Nations veterans to ensure that their burial sites receive a military headstone.
